Experience one of the most powerful choral works of our time as the Waukesha Choral Union, community members, and orchestra present The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace by Karl Jenkins. Written in the shadow of global conflict and dedicated to the victims of the Kosovo War, this masterpiece blends texts from diverse cultures and faith traditions as the audience journeys from a call to arms through the horrors of war to a hopeful vision of reconciliation and lasting peace. The Armed Man is both an unforgettable musical experience and a profound reflection on the human cost of war that continues to resonate today.

Every great story deserves to be told… and sung! Join the Waukesha Choral Union and the Waukesha Public Library for an afternoon of choral music that brings beloved children’s tales, dashing heroes, and literary classics to life.
The program features two remarkable, rarely performed musical narratives by twentieth-century English composer Liza Lehmann. Young Lochinvar, based on Sir Walter Scott’s Marmion, follows the titular hero as he battles rogues and saves his love from an unsavory fate. Nonsense Songs sets whimsical texts by Lewis Carroll from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, showcasing Lehmann's compositional wit.
After the performance, join the WCU for a reception at the Waukesha Public Library to enjoy light refreshments. You can also book a free library tour at the reception as part of your ticket reservation!
Featured works:
- Young Lochinvar by Liza Lehmann
- Tales from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, including Sam Pottle’s choral arrangement of Jabberwocky and excerpts from Liza Lehmann’s Nonsense Songs from Alice in Wonderland (The Songs That Came Out Wrong)
